Ocean Industries and Financial Institutions
Changing the way you measure and act on ocean-related issues through nature-based insights and data-sharing solutions.
a new level of contribution by ocean industries and better decisions by finance
Helping industries leverage and share data
Industries operating in the ocean space are increasingly under pressure to provide data that demonstrates sustainable operations. And while collecting data has become easier, it remains difficult to standardise, harmonise and share what is collected, making it more difficult to validate action on environmental impact as well as leverage data for operational purposes.
The Ocean Data Platform provides storage, harmonisation, and API access to uploaded data, making it easy to create visualisations, build tools and share non-sensitive data for the common good.
Easily share your data for the benefit of all
Today it is not easy for companies to publicly share their data. They need to build a platform to collect the data, upload it, store it and make it accessible. It can require entire teams to create and maintain a time–consuming and costly solution. The result is that it becomes too difficult to share data and is thus not prioritized.
The Ocean Data Platform will allow for low-effort sharing of ocean data at scale. The infrastructure transforms the data to FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) and partitions it in time and space, making it accessible by APIs.
You may share your data privately with your teams, or choose to make it public to support the scientific mapping of the ocean.

Platform Capabilities
Unify & Manage: Collect, organize, and distribute all your ocean data in one secure platform.
Enhance & Scale: Add meta tags, geospatial context, and leverage cloud-ready tools for seamless integration and growth.

Addressing the 3% Problem
Private companies hold the key to transforming ocean science. Yet today, only 3% of public ocean biodiversity data comes from industry—the rest remains locked away within companies.
For the first time, global coalitions like the UN Ocean Decade, Corporate Data Group, and Ocean Data Action Coalition are calling on companies to share data—bathymetry, biodiversity, currents, climate, and more.
This data fuels better science and smarter models. And for companies, it’s not just altruism—shared data drives efficiency, wins tenders, and builds trust. Explore insights and real-world examples in our flagship Tides of Transparency report.
Fit for Purpose Ocean Data Insights
There is a new expectation for business: companies must now measure, disclose and manage their ocean-related risks and impacts, including in the ocean.

Ocean Sensitive Areas Data Product
Ocean Sensitive Areas (OSA), co-developed by HUB Ocean and industry leaders, changes that. OSA brings together the best available data—habitats, species, migratory routes—aggregated and harmonized for easy access.
All-in-One: Reliable, high-quality datasets in one place.
Analysis-Ready: Instantly combine ecosystem and asset data for powerful insights.
Business Impact: Make smarter decisions and report with confidence.
Unlock nature insights for your decisions and reporting—faster, easier, and with greater impact.
Use Cases
Nature Related Finance
You can’t measure impact if you don’t know where nature is. HUB Ocean bridges this gap by bringing fit-for-purpose ocean data and tools into financial decision-making. In 2024 and 2025, we made major strides in shaping the future of nature-related finance to help companies and financial institutions understand, measure, and disclose their impacts and dependencies on ocean nature. We are collaborating closely with organizations like TNFD, NPI, ORRAA, WWF and more, along with developing use cases directly with financial institutions.
Biodiversity Insights for Businesses
Nature, including in the ocean, is rising on mandatory and voluntary reporting frameworks. Stay ahead of evolving nature-related disclosure requirements. We’ve supported companies with TNFD and CSRD reporting.

Impact Metrics
Wallenius Wilhelmsen
With Wallenius Wilhelmsen, we supported the development of the first TNFD-aligned marine transportation use case. Mapped operations against whale migration areas to assess nature-related risks in shipping.
Science-Based Risk Metrics
Created quantifiable metrics for whale strike risk and operational impact on marine ecosystems.
DNB Portfolio Screening
With Norway's leading financial institution, we piloted TNFD-aligned metrics for corporate finance portfolio screening using our platform.
Portfolio Risk Assessment
Assessed proximity of financed operations to sensitive marine zones for better lending decisions..
TGS Data Sharing
Leading geophysical company sharing data to support SDG14 and demonstrate ocean stewardship leadership.
Industry Leadership
Transformed operational data into valuable insights for ocean conservation while maintaining competitive edge.
Leading organizations achieving measurable ocean impact through our solutions.
