About us
We are a non-profit tech foundation, founded in Norway and serving the world, working to change the fate of the ocean by unlocking the power of data.
Who we are
HUB Ocean is an independent, non-profit foundation combining the mission of an NGO with the technical capabilities of a platform provider.
Our vision is to provide fit-for-purpose data to compel decision makers to steer a better course for ocean health.
Our mission is to change the fate of the ocean by unleashing the power of data, technology and collaboration.

A short history
We were never going to stand still
In 2019, Kjell Inge Røkke, Aker, Aker BP and REV Ocean’s Nina Jensen came together around a big ambition: to unlock the power of ocean data. HUB Ocean was born. Becoming a World Economic Forum C4IR Centre in 2020 took that ambition global. But we have also learned a lot along the way. What started as a vision for a one-stop shop for ocean data became a heavy node, and then something more practical: software that helps people put ocean data to work on real problems.
The Ocean Data Platform went live in 2024, and our work through the Ocean Data Action Coalition, the Ocean Decade Corporate Data Group and Tides of Transparency kept pushing us forward, particularly on how industry can share and use more of the data it holds.
Today, we are taking that learning into three areas where we believe we can make a real difference: working with ocean industries to share data and better understand their impact on nature; building the skills and capacity to use ocean data; and putting data to work to protect and restore the ocean. Same mission, sharper focus.
