OceanPact and HUB Ocean: A Data-Driven Alliance for Marine Protection

In Brazil, where the ocean is central to both biodiversity and economic activity, OceanPact and HUB Ocean have partnered to show how data sharing can accelerate marine conservation and responsible ocean use. This collaboration is a blueprint for how regional leadership and global technology can come together to protect sensitive ecosystems and unlock new opportunities for sustainable development.

Turning Data into Action

At the heart of the partnership is a shared commitment to making ocean data more accessible, usable, and impactful. OceanPact is contributing ecological and operational data to HUB Ocean’s Ocean Data Platform (ODP), helping build a clearer picture of Brazil’s marine environment.

This data feeds directly into HUB Ocean’s Ocean Sensitive Areas (OSA) product—a geospatial tool that helps governments, researchers, and industries identify and assess vulnerable marine habitats. With OceanPact’s contributions, the OSA product now includes richer insights into the South Atlantic, supporting better decisions for conservation, permitting, and planning.

Global Visibility, Local Impact

The partnership was launched on the global stage at Nor-Shipping 2025, where OceanPact joined HUB Ocean in leading a roundtable on biodiversity and ocean data. The collaboration also featured at the UN Ocean Conference, where OceanPact helped elevate Brazil’s role in shaping the future of ocean governance.

These moments weren’t just symbolic—they demonstrated how companies can lead by example, showing that data sharing is not only possible, but powerful.

Why This Matters

OceanPact’s decision to share data publicly is helping to:

  • Close critical knowledge gaps in marine biodiversity

  • Support Brazil’s commitments under the 30x30 agenda

  • Enable better ESG reporting and compliance

  • Empower scientists, policymakers, and innovators

This is more than a partnership—it’s a movement. And it’s one that others can join.

Looking Ahead

HUB Ocean and OceanPact are already exploring new projects, including mapping marine protected areas, supporting nature-positive development, and expanding the reach of the OSA product to other regions.

Together, they are proving that ocean data can be a force for good—and that when companies share what they know, everyone benefits..
