Webinar: Discover the Latest Global Seafloor Substrate Maps

Webinar: Discover the Latest Global Seafloor Substrate Maps with dbSEABED and HUB Ocean (2026)

After a highly successful first round—where participants from around the world explored the newly updated global seabed substrate maps from dbSEABED - we’re excited to bring this popular webinar back for a second edition specifically for the Geological Surveys across Northern Europe.

In this live demo webinar, dbSEABED and HUB Ocean will present the Ocean Data Platform (ODP) and the expanded global mappings of seabed substrates (bottom types), now openly available at 0.1-degree resolution (approximately 11 km) through the ODP. We will explore the multidisciplinary data compiled over decades by dbSEABED from both public and private sources, and do a deep dive how the seafloor observations shared by the Norwegian Geological Survey in 2025 have been incorporated and allow for higher resolution mappings. Participants will get a guided tour of what’s new and how to work with these datasets in practice. There will be room for questions and further discussion by the end of the webinar.

What to Expect

Explore the world’s largest fully integrated collection of seabed observation data—with more than 6 million observations across all ocean zones—and see how it powers state-of-the-art ocean floor models.

Learn how to access, visualize, and combine seabed data with hundreds of other datasets on the Ocean Data Platform.

Discover how to securely integrate your own data to generate richer, data-driven insights.

Participate in a live Q&A, including a closing discussion on “What’s next?” for global-scale seafloor composition mapping.

Welcome back — or welcome aboard!

Keen to get started? Take a first look at the dbSEABED datasets on the Ocean Data Platform and sign up (free) ahead of the webinar.
